JOURNEY TO THE WEST WORK IN PROGRESS Oct 29th and 30th at 8pm
Featuring Diane Wolkstein & Anita Ratnam/Directed by Richard Armstrong
Internationally celebrated storyteller Diane Wolkstein and Indian dancer/actor Anita Ratnam present the great Chinese epic *Journey to the West* – the first public performance of the project, in preparation for two years. This adventure follows impetuous, super-powerful Monkey and the devoted, (mostly) fearless Tang priest, as they journey to India to bring back the Buddhist scriptures.

TORONTO, Canada: Richard’s collaboration with singer and producer Fides Krucker, librettist Tom Walmsley and composer Louis Dufort on their new opera “Julie Sits Waiting”, has continued, with a development workshop in August 2009. The premiere is scheduled for May 2011.

BANFF, Alberta, Canada:
International Voice Workshops - Change of dates and format...

In order to facilitate attendance for those who found the August times difficult, the dates of the International Voice Workshops have been moved to the end of May/beginning of June. After having been reduced in length in 2009, the Introductory workshop will now once more be 3 days for 16 participants (May 24, 25 and 26), and the Advanced will again be 10 days for 14 participants (May 28 to June 6). 2010 marks the 25th anniversary of Richard Armstrong’s work at the Banff Centre.

HAVANA, Cuba:
Richard returned to Cuba in June 2009, as the guest of the Ludwig Foundation for Cuban Art.

ROME, Italy: Richard is invited to perform in the new opera "Alexander", by Italian composer Mauricio Squillante in 3 roles being written for his voice. He will play Alexander's three teachers - Aristotle, Diogenes and Aristander - in performances to be scheduled. He collaborated with the composer to create the voice parts in three development workshops in Rome between 2006 and 2008. The opera is being produced by the Italian Association for Contemporary Opera (www.aiolc.it). Fides Krucker (who created roles in Mauricio Squillante’s last opera “The Wings of Dedalus”) will create and perform the role of Alexander’s mother in the new opera.
